What you will receive

You will get an email from the career center with a link. That link opens a page where you can review the request and choose how to respond.

How to approve and write a reference

  1. Click the link in the email.
  2. On the page that opens, choose to approve the request.
  3. Fill in the form with your full name, phone number, job title, company, your relationship to the job seeker (for example, former manager or colleague), and your reference statement.
  4. Submit the form.

The job seeker will receive an email notification that your reference has been submitted.

How to decline

If you are not able to provide a reference, click the decline option on the page. The job seeker will be notified that you are unable to complete the request. Nothing is shared with any employer.

Where your reference goes

After you submit, your reference becomes part of the job seeker's approved references. From then on, it is included with each job application the seeker submits through that career center. The employer running that job sees it on their applicant view, alongside the seeker's resume and cover letter.

Employers see your full name, job title, company, your relationship to the seeker, and the statement you wrote. Employers do not see your email address or phone number.
