This page defines the Playbooks trigger options in plain English. Use it when choosing a Playbook trigger, troubleshooting why a Playbook did or did not run, or explaining trigger behavior to customers.
A trigger is the event that starts a Playbook. In the builder, this is the “when this happens” choice.
A trigger answers: What event should cause the Playbook to check its conditions and run its actions?
Triggers are different from conditions:

| A job goes live | A job becomes publicly live/visible on the career center. Use this when the timing should be tied to publication, not initial submission. |
| A job is approved for publishing | A job is approved through the approval workflow. Use this when the Playbook should run at the approval step. |
| A job expires | A job reaches its expiration point and is no longer active. Use this for follow-up, renewal, or reposting campaigns. |
| Someone applies to a job | A job seeker applies to a job. Use this for applicant-related workflows. |
| Someone views a job | A user views a job posting. Use this for engagement or activity-based workflows where job views matter. |
